NIS AND PIROT - NOSTALGIA FOR PAST TIMES

Day 1. Nis
Departure from the parking lot near the home of handball (or by appointment) in 09:00h. accompanied by a local guide. Visiting Monument Scull Tower (unique monument in the world is 5 meters tall and it has inbuilt 952 human heads, raised by the Turks in 1813, after the defeat of the Serbian rebels led by Stevan Sindjelića on Cegar, on May 31, 1809.) Continuation of the journey to Niska Banja. Only 7 km southeast of Nis, on the international road to Sofia - 250 m above sea level - there is one of the oldest spa towns in Serbia - Niska Banja. Springs of this spa provide water that is characterized by a variety of chemical compositions and are among the most radioactive in the country and Europe. Hour and a half retention for a tour, then proceed to the ancient site - the royal residence of Emperor Constantine - Mediane raised at the beginning of the fourth century. Sightseeing mosaics and villas. Continuation of the journey to the city of Nis. Visiting the Fortress of Nis. Turkish fortress was built on the ruins of the ancient and medieval fortifications. Present ramparts of the fortress are built from February 1719 to June 1723 and present remains one of the most beautiful and best preserved buildings of its kind in the Balkans. Free time for sightseeing and walking through the fortress and narrower urban core. Break for lunch. We suggest a visit to one of the restaurants with the famous specialties of Nis, in the only street that has preserved the oriental character of Nis - Tinkers Alley. One-hour break, and then go back to camp Red Cross, first Nazi concentration camp in Yugoslavia. Check-in hotel. Accommodation in a hotel. Overnight.
Day 2: Nis - Pirot - monasteries Temska and Poganovo
Breakfast. Departure on a trip to Pirot and monasteries Poganovo and Temska. Pirot was built on the site of a Roman fort ,,Tures“ in the third century, and established as Byzantine town Quimedava in IV century. In the XIV century, town is referred to as Pirot; in the 16th and 17th centuries was a beautiful and rich Turkish town. Pirot town (XIV century) at Hisar, a well-preserved; in home of Hristic (XIX century), there is museum of region Ponisavlje, with a collection of folk carpets by which this area is well known. One hour free time for sightseeing of Pirot, continuation of traveling to the monastery Poganovo. Poganovo is the monastery of Saint John the Theologian on the left bank of the river Jerma, near Dimitrovgrad, founded by the nobleman Constantine Dejanoivic from the late fourteenth century. The church was painted a century later as evidenced by the inscription above the entrance in which the works were completed in October 1499. Frescoes of the monastery Poganovo considered to be one of the most beautiful in the Balkans. Upon completion of the visit, continuation of the journey to the monastery Temska. Monastery in the village of Temska from the second half of the XVI century; frescoes from 1567 and 1654; particularly valuable monumental quarters of the eighteenth century. This monastery is named after the ruins of the old city of Temco, which was located in the immediate vicinity. In this place there is already a temple in the 11 century. It was built probably an ascetic, which at that time were numerous in these regions. On the foundations of the church in the 14th century, Dejanovic brothers, nephews of the Emperor Dusan, build a new facility.
